My latest Netflix binge

Hi, babes! Happy Tuesday!

Of course, as soon as I make my comeback to blogging, I had to go MIA last week. Unfortunately, I came down with a nasty case of bronchitis and a kidney infection right in time for Halloween. For the week that I spent quarantined in my house and out of work, I had ample amount of time to watch Netflix… and more Netflix, and more Netflix to get in the Halloween spirit. Just because I couldn’t go out, didn’t mean I couldn’t get into the holiday spirit. Check out the spooky shows I binge watched last week below!

Can we talk about how long ago I started this series on the blog? It still ends in “.wordpress.com” on the image!

The Haunting of Hill House:  The supernatural horror series follows the Crain family, who temporarily moved into Hill House in 1992  to renovate the mansion. While unnecessary repairs elongate their stay, the family begins to experience paranormal phenomena in the home — which ultimately result in a tragic loss and the family fleeing. More than two decades later, the Crain siblings and their father reunite after another Hill House causing tragedy strikes, and they are forced to confront the ghosts of their past– both literal and physical.

As your mind twists through each episode, attempting to anticipate the unimaginable, be sure you pay plenty of attention! There were tons of moments my mom and I would need to pause the show, remind each other of how this moment connected back to one three episodes ago, or would need to point out a ghost one of us didn’t notice!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: This adaptation of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” is very different than the version I grew up on — no quick wits from Salem, no goofiness from Harvey, and definitely no Britney Spears cameos. Instead, this version of Sabrina was dark and would send a chill down your spine.

However, this darker version still revolves around teen witch Sabrina Spellman, as she wrestles with being half-witch and half-mortal. As her sixteenth birthday comes around, and she must decide if she will choose to live life as a witch or a mortal, evil forces threaten her, her family, and the mortals she loves.

Now that I finished these shows, I will need something new to watch. What are you currently binge-watching? Comment below and let me know!

My latest Netflix binge…

T.G.I.F, am I right?

What better way to relax this weekend by laying by the pool watching Netflix OR for those of you are #indoorsy, lay in bed with the A.C. blasting while watching the good ole ‘flix.

We all know I’m addicted to Netflix, so here’s some of the shows that I have binge watched in the past few months…..

Wow wow wow…babes, I haven’t done a Netflix binge post in years! Heck, the graphic still has .wordpress.com on it!

Parks and RecreationThe hilarious seven season show, known as Parks and Rec, revolves around Leslie Knope and her team at an Indiana Parks and Recreation Department. Leslie has big dreams for furthering herself in the political world, but as for the rest of her team…..they would prefer to be anywhere but there. The show begins with Knope helping local nurse, Ann Perkins, turn the abandoned construction site that injured her boyfriend Andy Dwyer, into a community park. Leslie hopes that her team, including  her underachieving co-worker Tom Haverford, her government – opposing boss Ron Swanson, and the uninterested department intern, Aubrey Plaza. With the show using the same filming style as The Office, with the same implication of a documentary crew filming everything, the cast’s side commentary is as hilarious as the show’s actual hijinx.

New Girl: Quirky teacher Jessica Day returns to her boyfriends’ home one day to find him with another women. She immediately breaks up with him, leaves and begins to look for a new place to live. She answers an ad on Craigslist and moves in with three single men: Nick, a grumpy law school drop-out, Schmidt, an uptight womanizer who used to be overweight, and Coach, a former professional athlete turned personal trainer. (However, for anyone who starts to watch the show from this post, I feel it is important to note that Coach moves out after the pilot and the loft’s former roommate, Winston, moves back in.) The men, Jess, and Jess’ childhood best friend and fashion model, CeCe, form a bond to create a dysfunctional family. Together, the group discovers more about themselves, their careers, love, and more. Not all seasons of New Girl are on Netflix, since the show is currently airing on Fox.

Orange is the New Black:  Like any true OITNB fan, I began to watch the newest season, season four, as soon as it premiered last month. As the most watched Netflix series, most of you know by now that the show follows Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women’s federal prison. The show also allows for viewers to get to know more about the other inmates, both through flashbacks and their current lives at Litchfield. This shocking season (no spoilers, don’t worry!) shows many characters in more-detail, has a surprising death, includes one character being released early, and so, so much more!

Gossip Girl:  High school just got a lot more dramatic for a group of privileged Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl, an anonymous blogger, sends text-message blasts with the group’s deepest secrets and scandals. Once the group, featuring frenemies Blair and Serena, Nate, Dan, and Chuck, graduate from high school, they hope Gossip Girl’s reign will end. But as the scandals continue and hearts continue to break, Gossip Girl continues to share all of their secrets.

Currently, my mom and I just started the Netflix-original Between, about a town that has been struck with a mysterious disease that has killed anybody over the age of 22. While under quarantine, the 21-year-olds and younger are now left to fend for themselves.
However, I am looking for something to watch when I am at the gym! So if you have any recommendations, let me know!

The Wishlist of a Netflix Addict

Hi, my name is Sami and  I have an addiction…..to Netflix.

This past summer summer alone, I finished Greek, Grey’s Anatomy and Orange is the New Black. , now finding any spare chance I get to watch Gossip Girl. And as soon as I’m done with Gossip Girl, I’ll be starting Fuller House.

Some of the greatest shows have stopped releasing new episodes – and some have stopped being shown on television all together. Yes, I may be able to catch a good Sex and the City marathon on a Thursday on E!, but with so many episodes that teach me about adulting, boys, and friendship – I want to watch them on my own time.

Dear Netflix, if you are reading this – these are the shows I wish you would add:

My

1. Sex and the City

Knowing if someone is a Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, or Charlotte can tell you more about them than any social media stalking could ever do. Sex and the City is what taught me about my friendship, adulting, and everything in between as these women tackled life as a female in the beautiful NYC. They tackle feminism in a way that wasn’t discussed before – from motherhood, to being a successful woman, to expressing your sexuality. With each designer shoe-step and cosmopolitan, these women were there for each other. They weren’t perfect, but they were real.

2. Lizzie McGuire

Before there was Sex and the City to teach me about life, there was Lizzie McGuire. Lizzie talked first kisses and first bras with her parents and best friends at the same time that I was. She showed pre-teen girls in a real way, not as secret rockstars. Lizzie faced the struggles that we all do growing up and Disney Channel portrayed these obstacles in a very real well. For this, the show will always have a special place within my heart. All 90’s girl grew up with Lizzie and I would love nothing than to sit back and watch the Lizzie-Gordo love unfold.

3. The O.C.

Moving down my wishlist list, I can’t help but wish that the most dramatic television show in the history of teen show history, The O.C., was on Netflix. Everyone was dating-and sleeping- with everyone, everyone seemed to be an alcoholic, and everyone seemed to struggle with some very serious hardship. If your mouth didn’t drop to the floor during every episode, where you really watching The O.C.? But I don’t think I bawled my eyes out harder then when Ryan carried Marissa’s lifeless body away from a burning car or when I realized that Seth and Summer were the most perfect couple.

4. Laguna Beach

I don’t know if I’ll even love my husband as much as I love Laguna Beach, L.C., and the lessons that I learned from the show. My obsession with Laguna Beach will never be “dunzo.” Before Sex and the City, Laguna Beach is where I learned about high school boys, friendships, and the importance of a good eye roll. The cast taught us that both boys and friends can break your heart and through these moments, you’ll realize who really matters. I learned that Lauren Conrad is the definition of #goals and what happens in Cabo does not stay in Cabo, my friends….

5. Jersey Shore

Call it my biggest guilty pleasure ever, but I love Jersey Shore.  I don’t think I would binge anything more than some Season 1 antics from my favorite guidos. I teased my hair, bought a tanning membership to GTL, and would have “t-shirt time” before going to teen nights at Karma, thanks to my favorite Italians. Also, we need to remember that no show has every had any better set of quotes come out of the “diary room” like chats. Even past all of this, to re-live the hook ups, the drunken mishaps, and realize why the ocean is actually salty sounds like the best way to avoid doing homework.

My Latest Netflix Binge

netflix-binge

I honestly think Netflix may be the biggest addiction in 2014. Have no fear, readers, for when you have no idea what to watch!

When you’re laying in bed on Netflix unsure of what to watch – check out the latest movies I have watched on my past snow day Netflix binges!

1. Stuck in Love

Follow an aclaimed writer, his ex-wife, and their teenage children over a year, in which they all come to terms with their love lives and deal with the ups and downs of what it’s like to be in love, deal with heartbreak, and deal with having your guard up. (And then, if you follow me on Twitter, you could have followed my up-and-down crush that I quickly had for the teenage son, Rusty).

2. LOL

Miley Cyrus, as Lola, has her heart broken by her boyfriend at the start of the school year. Then, surprisingly, her musician best friend, Kyle, reveals his feelings for her. Follow along with the high schoolers as they learn about love in the modern world. This film is definitely underrated, especially for all Miley fans!

3. Safe Haven

Nicholas Sparks does it again! The book-turned-movie follows a mysterious young woman who lands in Southport, North Carolina. Watch as the bond with a local (and very cute) widower unfolds, while forcing her to comfront her dark, secret past that haunts her. If you’re looking for a tear-jerker than is suspenseful, you found it!

4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Feeling an 80’s chick flick? You found the perfect one! Follow the new girl in town, Janey (played by a young SJ Parker), as her and her best friend, Lynne, share their passion for dancing and “Dance TV.” When the show announces open auditions, the two teens are determined to audition – no matter what obstacles they must face, they use their friendship and love to dance to pull through.

5. A Haunting at Silver Falls

You all know I love a good scary movie. If you do, too, then here’s one you need to check out! This small town is haunted by the twin daughters of a wrongly convicted murderer. Once teenager Jordan gets involved in putting the pieces of their death together, she starts to discover the killer isn’t so obvious – and may be very, very close to her.

Well, if this didn’t make you want to take a Netflix break – I don’t know what will! So take a break from your stressful day, watch one of these movies, and let me know what you think of them!

My Monday Musts

Happy Monday,  “Sparkle and Shine” readers!

So this week has been one full of some pretty high highs and a few low lows. However, this is life. What was able to get me through this crazy week was my best friends. So I just wanted to give an incredible shout out to them and remind you readers that your friends can help you get through anything. Pick people to be friends with who will only lift you higher.

So if you are having one of those roller coaster weeks, remember this is a new week. Thanks to Pinterest, I have a new motivational quote to help me get through the week, thanks to the ultra-fabulous Lilly Pulitzer.

lilly-pulitzer-happy-quote.jpg-w=600

And on that happy note, here are this week’s Monday Musts:

1. “Pretty Wild”

So I’ve previously shared with you readers about how I read the biography on “The Bling Ring” and watched the movie, so now I am continuing on my slight obsession with the Burglary Bunch by watching E!’s one season show “Pretty Wild” starring Tess and Alexis, who were members of “The Bling Ring.” The show has a Kardashian like spin on young Hollywood. Except…not exactly. I watch the show on my phone thanks to the Netflix app when I’m at the gym, so it gives me something to do while I’m on the elliptical (since I save “The Carrie Diaries” for when I’m all snuggled up in my bed). The show isn’t on air anymore, but if you are interested in more on “The Bling Ring,” like myself, you must check out “Pretty Wild” on Netflix!

2. Call me “Weather Girl Sami”

I have more exciting news to share with you, readers! Last week, I told you about how I was appointed Director of Social Enrichment for my sorority. This week, I received more great news! I was selected to be one of the three weather girl’s for my school’s TV station, Q30! This is just the first step in my dreams of being a broadcaster coming true! I am so excited to continue to be taking on the Quinnipiac campus by storm (get it, storm, weather….) And look out, readers, because I will be sharing my weather reports with you in My Monday Musts.

3. A New “Sparkle and Shine” Tradition!

Some of us didn’t get to partake in some Sunday Funday for Superbowl Sunday and were stuck doing work in the library. I took a little break from all my legal research and business law homework (#lawminorproblems) to write a post yesterday! One of my my blogging goals of this year is to let you, my fabulous “Sparkle and Shine” readers, get to know me a little bit more. What better way then through social media?! At the start of each month, I will be posting my top 3 Instagram pictures of each month! Those will be determined based on the number of likes they receive. In case you got caught up in a little something called the Superbowl, here are my Top 3 Instagrams of January 2014! Look for this new monthly tradition at the start of each month. If you can’t wait each month to see my Instagram posts, you can follow me!

If you want to read more of my work, check out this week’s Quinnipiac University’s Her Campus Celebrity interview with the newest President of Quinnipiac’s Panhellenic Council! All you sorority girls can check it out here.

Remember that Lilly quote, readers, and have a great week! Keep sparkling!
